High School Social Studies Teacher – Full Time
Erskine Academy, an independent town academy established in 1883, seeks an experienced and dynamic Social Studies teacher starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. Located in the scenic central Maine town of South China, the Academy serves 525 students in grades 9-12 and maintains a tradition of academic excellence, an orderly and structured school climate, and community engagement. The successful candidate will join a collaborative department committed to helping students understand the complexities of history, culture, government, and global citizenship. Teaching assignments may include a range of courses within the department, such as Global Studies, United States History, and American Government, depending on the candidate’s experience and the needs of the program.
Responsibilities include:
· Teaching multiple sections of high school social studies courses.
· Designing engaging lessons that promote critical thinking, historical inquiry, and civic understanding.
· Supporting students with diverse learning styles and academic backgrounds.
· Collaborating with colleagues in curriculum development and interdisciplinary initiatives.
· Contributing to the life of the school through advising, clubs, or extracurricular involvement.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
· Maine teaching certification (or eligibility for certification).
· Demonstrated passion for teaching history, civics, and global perspectives.
· Strong communication skills and a commitment to building positive relationships with students.
